Summer is a depressing time for fashion, what with all the unflattering bathing suits, boring sundresses, and proliferation of muggy sweat.
To the rescue comes this totally un-summery, cool and dark ad campaign by Chanel. And no, we're not talking about the colors—it's Kirsten Stewart's gloomy expression that's giving us the stone-cold chills. Since the French fashion empire announced its new spokesmodel back in December, plenty of eyebrows have been raised over the pairing of Stewart (dirty rebel girl, scowler extraordinaire) and Chanel (the classiest, arguably most beautiful brand on the planet).
But like it or not, here it is—Stewart modeling the Texas-inspired Cruise 2014 collection (aka, the one that rightfully upset Native Americans last year). And we must admit, well . . . she's killing it.
Typically I wouldn’t see myself as being the quintessential face of Chanel with the pearls and the classics, but I liked stepping into that role, and this suits me a little bit more than past collections because it is very American. I can't use the word bad-ass but there is something about it that is fun . . . fierce. —K-Stew
While bad-ass isn't our choice of word either, here are five things that we are digging about this haute-rodeo ad campaign:
1. The hair: So wild, so glamorous, so surprisingly everyday! Do try it at home.
2. The cowboy boots-inspired socks: To die for . . . without the need to actually die from leather-induced calf suffocation.
3. The tiny vest jacket: Wait for fall and buy yourself your own short, poofy, bolero-like jacket. (It doesn't have to be Chanel.)
4. The embroidered stars: Your grandmas' new project.
5. The belly knot: Since when is tying your shirt fashionable again? Since now. Thanks, Kristen (and Karl Lagerfeld)!
